FERPA Training
As an employee of UCLA, some of the work you do may involve access to information or records that are considered confidential and not available to the public. The FERPA tutorial and quiz are designed to inform you of your responsibility to respect the confidentiality of student and department records, to protect student privacy, and to act in a professional manner when interacting with the public in person and over the telephone.
If you are found acting indiscreetly with confidential material or not protecting the privacy of a student, you may be disciplined or dismissed from your job. These actions are necessary to maintain high professional standards and the integrity of the University, and to ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
Tutorial
A 12-point FERPA tutorial is designed to give you a better understanding of the confidentiality rights that apply to student education records. You may study the tutorial before taking the FERPA Quiz or at any time.
Quiz
Staff in the Division of Student Affairs who have responsibility for student records or who have OASIS access are required to take the FERPA Quiz annually in order to be eligible to receive or to continue having access to student records. The quiz consists of 12 questions. A record of completion is maintained, and you will receive an e-mail confirmation for your records.
To take the quiz and to receive confirmation of completion, you must have a UCLA Logon ID and an e-mail address recorded in the Campus Directory.
